I created, "Upon Her Shoulders," in honor of all women across the ages whose resilient strength has shouldered countless burdens of gender injustices and indignities from the societies in which there were raised. While forced to maintain an appearance of beauty and grace, these women's delicate appearances belied their phenomenal inner strength and emotional reserves to endure, and ultimately, overcome these social disparities. In bravely doing so, women created a place and a purpose for themselves and their children in societies that gave them little or no regard. These women's personal revolutions were carried upon their shoulders in quiet, if not silent, rebellion carefully disguised as delicate and fragile to the outside world. Wrapped in the illusion of beauty, these women's shoulders have been the stalwart foundations upon which women of today humbly and gratefully stand.
